The 2008 Hoss Fly machine from a company called California Boss Hoss Motorcycles has been given lots of coverage by blogs everywhere since it was exhibited at the November 2007 Specialty Equipment Market Association’s (SEMA) trade show in Las Vegas, Nevada. Touted as the Hossfly V8 bar stool, it certainly grabbed a lot of attention, not the least of which because it certainly doesn’t look like any of your typical modern hotel chairs.
Modern bar stools vary wildly in design and style. From simple tall stools to chairs that look like they may take off for outer space at any second, there is a modern bar chair to suit any hotel’s look and feel.
What matters most when making your chair selection is that the chairs you choose fit into the overall design them of your hotel. If your modern hotel chairs are more on the contemporary side, perhaps with rich wood frames and plush fabrics, a stainless steel bar chair that looks like it may have come from the set of a bad alien movie would probably not be the best choice. On the other hand, if you happen to be in charge of purchasing furniture for the Area 51 Motel, stainless steel bar chairs would be the perfect fit.
Philippe Starck originally designed this piece for film director Wim Wenders where he required a fantasy office environment as a set piece. There were a few different pieces of furniture that Starck designed for this project, this one being called the WW Stool. Soon after this designed entered production.
The fluid tentacle design was not only designed as a pretty set piece - it does also function as a usable item of furniture although it will normally only be comfortable for users who prefer to almost stand against the bar stool rather than sit down.
