Hotel Bar Stools

Not all hotel bars are created equal. Those that are located in high-end hotels, like the Four Seasons in New York or the Ritz Hotel in London, would understandably have highly dignified, lushly decorated bars where the prices of food and drinks would be astronomical. Small hotels and hostels would probably have much, much more casual bars where you wouldn’t need a reservation to enter, and which you can spend time in even if you’re wearing casual attire. The furniture probably would be a lot more casual too.

One type of bar stool that I think would look good in either type of hotel is the Stone Stool. Created by Dutch designer Marcel Wanders and manufactured by Kartell, it’s something that would probably need appropriate commercial bistro tables to complement its looks; maybe those that go beyond generic plastic tables of the monobloc kind.

It seems pretty certain that these chairs would add to a bar’s ambiance, though. Made of polycarbonate, it is said to be reminiscent of an hourglass. I can see the resemblance, though its base would have to have a narrower middle to truly look like one. What it does remind me of are those small glasses that hold candles sometimes, especially those that can be found in front of statues of saints in churches. The texture of the Stone Stool’s base and those glass receptacles seem pretty similar.

Wanders’ chair is only 45 cm high; so it isn’t appropriate for setting by the bar counter, unless you’re running a bar for customers of hobbit height. It’s available in crystal, yellow, amber, blue, smoky grey, and red. If you want something that looks archaic yet modern at the same time for your bar or bistro chairs, then the Stone Stool is definitely worth looking at.
